Cablevision Sucks But Not Their Direct Sales Compensation Plan

Work in progress

The Cablevision "Compensation Plan" so many issues I believe are created with this one item. When your paying sales people up to  over $800 per customer connected it's easy to figure out now why the average cable bill is so high.

Below are two Cablevision Direct sales representatives compensation plans. They are not new but how much can the money have changed.

Cablevision's Morris Direct Sales Team - Not!

So I was at a Starbucks recently and overheard that Cablevision closed the Morris County, NJ direct sales office. Not enough sales and a $500,000.00 monthly payroll.

I spoke to someone at the Monmouth sales office and they confirmed that the Morris office was closed. Now the story differs. I heard that all but three sales people were fired and the Monmouth contact said everyone was transferred. I wonder if the people fired were out on the streets working and had their badges taken away or if it happened at the office.

At the $40,000 base salary (per the ads) it's safe to say probably twelve plus people got fired. If there was three people that got transferred they probably would have been earning a $100,000 plus salary.

Anyone that has more information on this email the site.

Cablevisions Discounts

So in mid February four plus articles were on Cablevision cut rate discounts because of subsciber losses and competition from Verizon Fios. This promotion was for a 24 month no contract triple play package of phone, tv and internet.

If you were lucky enough to live in two special Cablevision areas you were offered a "special rate."  Long Island, NY residents were going  to get a $69.95 rate and Hoboken, NJ residents a $79.95 rate. Both places the promotion was for one week only.

This looks great in the news but Cablevision has had a Direct Sales department of probably 300 plus people going door to door offering this $69.95 price day in and day out since at least mid 2010. If you lived in a Verizon Fios (Platinum) area this was a standard switch price.

The 24 month promotion always includes no contract because Cablevision does not have contracts, 12 month free DVR service and several other 12 or 24 month incentives. This free $200 Apple iPod offer since sometime in 4th quarter 2011.

When a Cablevision spokesman told the Ny POST “It’s an offer that is promotional pricing only for new customers to get them to try our product, not an uncommon practice,” that spokesman was correct. My interpretation of the statement is that probably 90% plus of the "new customers" are really old customers who switched away and definitely nothing uncommon about the $69 price point.

My next article will "Winners vs Suckers" will discuss Cablevisions retail rates vs winback rates and be out soon.

cablevision ad_0212122Great comments in the video

3:48. "You have the ability of making over six figures"

4:01. "A month into the field you can be making that $15, $20 thousand right off the bat"

4:20. "I bought a new car the first month I worked here"

4:38. "Don't be satisfied with that $40 thousand (base salary) ok. If your here to make $40 thousand a year this isn't the job for you ok. You can make four or five times that amount."  Wilfredo "Will" Alfaro the $300+ thousand man in 2008 and probably cleared at least $275,000 in 2011. All this selling TV, PHONE and INTERNET. All that money and he still has time to sell real estate at Coldwell Banker. Power to him..
